Seether - Country Song

Seether just released their album "Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray".

This band first name was Saron Gas, they come from Pretoria, South Africa, 1999.

The ballad "Broken" with Amy Lee of Evanescence on share vocal with Morgan. Inspired by the positive reaction the duet got on the road and perhaps fueled by a budding romance between Lee and Morgan, the band headed into the studio and quickly recorded an alternate version of "Broken" with Amy Lee on vocals.

The song, along with a new song titled "Sold Me", was featured on the soundtrack for the 2004 film The Punisher and was massively successful, bringing the band fame in the US, the UK and Australia in particular. I really like "Broken" a lot its a good tune, Amy´s singing is awesome.

The set up right now is:
Shaun Morgan on lead vocals, rhythm guitar
Dale Stewart on bass, backing vocals
John Humphrey on drums

Genesis - Mama

You will not forget it's Mother's Day today?, especially if you live in Sweden.

Important to remember! We do not forget it anyway, a tune for Mama on the Tune Of The Day is today's choice.

A band that we know most mothers love and a song we think works well for this day.

Genesis are an English rock band that formed in 1967. The band currently comprises the longest-tenured members Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks. Past members Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett also played major roles in the band in its early years. Genesis are among the top 30 highest-selling recording artists of all time with approximately 150 million albums sold worldwide.

Todays tune "Mama" was the first single from Genesis' 1983 self-titled album (often referred to as the "shapes album" or simply The Mama Album, after the first track). Instantly recognizable from its harsh drum machine introduction composed by Mike Rutherford, which leads into minimalist synthesizer lines in minor keys and finally Phil Collins' reverb-laden voice, "Mama" serves notice that the album which follows will be considerably darker than previous efforts.

The track also has a powerful final verse punctuated with a live drum kit (modified with the trademark "gated reverb" effect), comparable to Collins' earlier solo recording "In the Air Tonight”. The song has resurfaced in 2007 as part of the Turn It On Again tour, albeit transposed down a tone to account for the deepening of Phil Collins' voice as he grew older.

This is for you Mama!

Gil Scott-Heron - I'm New Here

One of the most trenchant voices in American music fell silent yesterday, Friday May 27, with the passing of Gil Scott-Heron.

Reports confirmed that Scott-Heron had died St Luke's Hospital, New York, after becoming sick upon returning from a European trip. His death brought to an end a troubled career that was blighted by personal turmoil and addiction, but which also saw the singer create some of the most influential music of the last 40 years.

In response, Public Enemy's Chuck D stated "RIP GSH...and we do what we do and how we do because of you." on his Twitter account. His UK publisher, Jamie Byng, called him "one of the most inspiring people I've ever met”. On hearing of the death, R&B singer Usher stated "I just learned of the loss of a very important poet...R.I.P., Gil Scott-Heron. The revolution will be live!!”. Richard Russel, who produced Scott-Heron's final studio album, called him a "father figure of sorts to me”. Eminem stated that "He influenced all of hip-hop”.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 1, 1949, Scott-Heron moved to the Bronx in his teenage years. He grew up immersed in jazz and blues, penning two novels - The Vulture (1970) and Nigger Factory (1972) - as he embarked on his own musical career.

His collaborative efforts with Brian Jackson featured a musical fusion of jazz, blues and soul music, as well as lyrical content concerning social and political issues of the time, delivered in both rapping and melismatic vocal styles by Scott-Heron. The music of these albums, most notably Pieces of a Man and Winter in America in the early 1970s, influenced and helped engender later African-American music genres such as hip hop and neo soul. Scott-Heron's recording work is often associated with black militant activism and has received much critical acclaim for one of his most well-known compositions The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. His poetic style has been influential upon every generation of hip hop since his popularity began. In addition to being widely considered an influence in today's music, Scott-Heron remained active until his death, and in 2010 released his first new album in 16 years, entitled I'm New Here.

Scott-Heron's influence was such that, at the time of writing, a number of musicians began paying tribute to the man and so will we at Tune Of The Day.

He has been described by music writers as "the godfather of rap" and "the black Bob Dylan”. On his influence, a music writer later noted that "Scott-Heron's unique proto-rap style influenced a generation of hip-hop artists”. The Washington Post wrote that "Scott-Heron's work presaged not only conscious rap and poetry slams, but also acid jazz, particularly during his rewarding collaboration with composer-keyboardist-flutist Brian Jackson in the mid- and late ’70s.”

Todays tune is the title track taken from his thirteenth studio album "I'm New Here”. His last studio album in his lifetime, following a period of personal and legal troubles with drug addiction. Primarily a blues and spoken-word album, I'm New Here serves as musical and lyrical departure from Scott-Heron's previous work.

In 2010 he was due to play a gig in Tel Aviv, this attracted criticism from Palestinian groups who stated "Your performance in Israel would be the equivalent to having performed in Sun City during South Africa’s apartheid era... We hope that you will not play apartheid Israel." In response he cancelled the gig.

RIP Gil Scott-Heron!

Black Stone Cherry - White Trash Millionaire

This band is quite diffrent to other rock band I know, they dont drink or take any drugs. This is really Awesome and outstanding!

I loved their last album so I´m very exited over their new album "Between The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea", todays tune is taken from it. It will be released 31 of May.

The band Black Stone Cherry originated from Tramore, co Waterford. Chris Robertson and John Fred Young, son of The Kentucky Headhunters's rhythm guitarist Dicky Young, started to play music together early in their teens and Wells and Lawhon soon followed. Black Stone Cherry officially formed on June 4, 2001.

They then took over the practice house that had been used by The Kentucky Headhunters since 1968 and began to record tracks. After the band finished recording, they returned to Edmonton for a homecoming gig in the gym of the local middle school, which was attended by 1500 people.

After the band’s self-titled debut album was released, Robertson's former school principal invited the band back to Edmonton to celebrate with a concert. As the band entered the town, the streets were filled with people holding "welcome home" signs.

This is Black Stone Cherry:
Chris Robertson on lead vocals, rhythm guitar
Ben Wells on lead guitar, backing vocals

Nile - Permitting the Noble Dead to Descend to the Underworld

George Kollias, drum player from the band Nile made a visit to Sweden for a small clinic on slagverket here in Stockholm. I actually took the opportunity to make a visit. I then fell into a crowded store with great expectations of what would happen, when he got up on the drum stool he was greeted by standing invasions. George gave us two songs of the Nile and a self-crafted demo coming on his upcoming solo album eventually. This sympathetic gentleman was very fun to listen to, mixed with drum facts, both the drum patterns and scales, mixed with humor and questions from both fans and drum interested, it was really entertaining to listen to. The store had plenty of drum geeks, as expected, ran into a friend, Ronnie (The drummer from the Grave), who always as nice, just back from a tour with Demonical.

That I'm getting old, noticeable the years, I bring my compact camera and my system camera to document a bit, great opportunities. Is not it every day you're shooting a drummer like this. But senile me, I forget of course my memory cards at home ... damn.

Well enough about that;

Some info about George and Nile :)

George Kollias (born August 30, 1977 in Korinthos, Greece) is a Greek heavy metal drummer best known for his work with American death metal band Nile. He is the first of their four drummers to perform every song on more than one full length album (handling drum duties so far on Annihilation of the Wicked, Ithyphallic and Those Whom the Gods Detest). He started playing drums at the age of 10 on yoghurt cages in diffrent sizes before he had saved enough money to buy his own drumkit. Some years later started drum lessons with Greek drummer Yannis Stavropoulos. In addition to being the drummer of Nile he also teaches drums at the Modern Music School in Athens.

He previously drummed for Sickening Horror, a death metal band. He also used to be in the Greek melodic death metal band Nightfall, but left the band in 2005 to join Nile.
George Kollias made an instructional drumming DVD called "Intense Metal Drumming" that was released in July 2008.

George's hand technique allows him great precision as well, though it is not nearly as individualistic as his foot technique. George grips the stick fully with his index through ring finger, letting them stretch forward and wrap around the stick. He does not use his thumb and index finger to create a swivel. Instead, all of his speed stems from his wrists, much like his ankle usage in the kick.

Nile is an American death metal band from Greenville, South Carolina, formed in 1993. Their music and lyrics are inspired by Ancient Egyptian mysticism, history, religion, and art, as well as stories by H. P. Lovecraft.

Current members in Nile:
Karl Sanders − vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards, additional instruments (since 1993)
Dallas Toler-Wade − vocals, guitars (since 1996), bass (studio only) (2007-2010)
George Kollias − drums, percussion (since 2004)
Chris Lollis - bass, vocals (since 2010)

Todays tune "Permitting the Noble Dead to Descend to the Underworld” is taken from the sixth studio album "Those Whom the Gods Detest”. The album was released on November 3, 2009.

The cover artwork, a depiction of the Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten, was brought to realization this time around by Michal "Xaay" Loranc, whom Karl Sanders had previously worked with on his second solo record Saurian Exorcisms.

Bob Dylan - Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine)

A big artist is 70 years today - Bob Dylan.

We at Tune of The Day wanted to congrat him and say Damn good of u!

All you that doesnt really know who Mr Dylan is...
He is a singer/songwriter he is a painter and a great poet.
Born in Minnesota, US.

He formed several bands while he attended Hibbing High School. The Shadow Blasters was short-lived, but his next, The Golden Chords, lasted longer and played covers of popular songs. Their performance of Danny and the Juniors' "Rock and Roll Is Here to Stay" at their high school talent show was so loud that the principal cut the microphone off. In his 1959 school yearbook, Robert Zimmerman listed as his ambition "To follow Little Richard." The same year, using the name Elston Gunnn (sic), he performed two dates with Bobby Vee, playing piano and providing handclaps.

He soon began to perform at the 10 O'clock Scholar, a coffee house a few blocks from campus, and became actively involved in the local Dinkytown folk music circuit. During his Dinkytown days, Zimmerman began introducing himself as "Bob Dylan".
In his autobiography, Dylan acknowledged that he had been influenced by the poetry of Dylan Thomas. Explaining his change of name in a 2004 interview, Dylan remarked: "You're born, you know, the wrong names, wrong parents. I mean, that happens. You call yourself what you want to call yourself. This is the land of the free.

On April 12, 2011, Legacy Recordings released Bob Dylan in Concert – Brandeis University 1963 The recording was taped at Brandeis University on May 10, 1963, two weeks prior to the release of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.

The Kills - Satellite

The Kills is a rock band formed by American singer Alison Mosshart ("VV”) who also sings in "The Dead Weather" and British guitarist Jamie Hince ("Hotel”). Their first three albums, Keep On Your Mean Side, No Wow, and Midnight Boom have gathered much critical praise. Blood Pressures, their fourth and most recent studio album, was released on April 4, 2011.

Todays tune ’Satellite’ is the first single from the fourth studio album "Blood Pressures”. Its a tune with a very swampy sound based on a disted rockish groove and arena chorus, kinda cool. Reminds me of The White Stripes. The album was recorded at Key Club studio in Benton Harbor, Michigan, the same studio where the band had previously recorded both "No Wow" and "Midnight Boom”.

The song 'DNA' is currently available from their website as a free download if you sign up to the bands mailing list. The album is currently being streamed on their website for free.
