Thin Lizzy - Are You Ready

Today is the official Thin Lizzy day! It is 25 years since Phil Lynott passed away and of course we pay tribute to this band with a truly Lizzy smoker. This is a band I actually wished that have seen Live!

Thin Lizzy are an Irish hard rock band formed in Dublin in 1969. Two of the founding members, drummer Brian Downey and bass guitarist/vocalist Phil Lynott met while still in school. Lynott assumed the role of frontman and led them throughout their recording career of thirteen studio albums. Thin Lizzy are best known for their songs "Whiskey in the Jar", "Jailbreak" and "The Boys Are Back in Town", all major international hits still played regularly on hard rock and classic rock radio stations. After Lynott's death in 1986, various incarnations of the band have emerged over the years based around guitarists Scott Gorham and John Sykes.

Todays tune "Are You Ready" is taken from the "Live and Dangerous" album, a live double LP, released in 1978. It was recorded in Philadelphia, London and Toronto in 1977, during the tours accompanying the albums Johnny the Fox and Bad Reputation.

Live and Dangerous was originally intended to be a studio album. Working with producer Tony Visconti, Thin Lizzy maintained huge success with their previous album Bad Reputation, and the group wanted to work with him again. However, Visconti had a very tight schedule, so Phil Lynott came up with the idea that they spend two weeks together compiling a live album instead.

It was also the last album to feature Brian Robertson, who went on to form Wild Horses with ex-Rainbow bassist Jimmy Bain.

On this album, the band segues immediately from "Cowboy Song" into "The Boys Are Back in Town", on the line "a cowboy’s life is the life for me". This technique was revisited with the same pair of live tracks in subsequent performances, and showcased more professionally on further live albums - examples being Thin Lizzy's later concert in Sydney with Gary Moore, and also on Thin Lizzy's Greatest Hits.

The tune also features on Life (subtitled Live, and labeled Life:Live on the original vinyl LP editions) is a double live album, released in 1983. This double album was recorded during their farewell tour in 1983, principally at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, UK. Phil Lynott had felt reluctantly that it was time to disband the group after the 1983 tour and to mark the occasion, former Thin Lizzy guitarists Eric Bell (1969-73), Brian Robertson (1974-8) and Gary Moore (1974, 1977 and 1978-9) joined the band on stage at the end of these gigs to do some numbers. This was called "The All-Star Jam".

Graveyard - Buying Truth (Tack Och Förlåt)

From Gothenburg comes the band Graveyard that with their second release "Hisingen Blues" captured first place on my top 10 list of the best album of 2011 with a classic retro album, an album that really will live long. Really nice beats spiced with a passion for the musical. "Hisingen Blues" has been tossed around in the top layer during most of the year and rooted down really well. A worthy winner in my book.

Mastodon - The Ruiner

Number 3
of the best Albums - 2011

Mastodon leave their progressive concept thinking with the latest release "The Hunter" and does a little more straightforward album. A record that works at any time since the album is easier, more fun and filled with joy.
The artwork for the album is brilliant!

Todays tune "The Ruiner" is the bonus track from the limited edition of the "The Hunter"

Soundgarden - Jesus Christ Pose

Soundgarden is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1984 by lead singer Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Matt Cameron became the band's permanent drummer in 1986 while bassist Ben Shepherd became a permanent replacement for Yamamoto in 1990.

5 studio album did they made before they got disbanded. But a new record has been released, "Live on I-5" is a live album and it was recorded during the West Coast leg of their 1996 tour, and released on March 22, 2011. They announced the album, the band's first live album, on their website on January 13, 2011. The title is a reference to Interstate 5, which runs along the Pacific coast of the United States. The band hired Adam Kasper to record several shows with a rented 24-track machine/truck. They planned to release the live album after the tour, but they disbanded and the tapes were left in Studio X (now Bad Animals Studio). A live version of "Blow Up the Outside World" was released to those who pre-ordered Live on I-5 from Soundgarden's official Web site as a download.

On January 1, 2010, Cornell alluded to a Soundgarden reunion via his Twitter, writing: "The 12-year break is over and school is back in session.

On March 1, 2011, Chris Cornell confirmed that Adam Kasper would produce the new upcoming album. Four days later, the band stated it would consist of material that was "90 percent new" and the rest consisting of updated versions of older ideas but not "make another grunge or metal record". They also noted that they had 12 to 14 songs that were "kind of ready to go”.

On June 1, 2011 It was announced that Soundgarden would be the headliner for the VooDoo Experience in New Orleans Halloween weekend 2011

Anyway, todays tune "Jesus Christ Pose”, released in 1991 as the first single from the band's third studio album, ”Badmotorfinger" (1991). The song was included on Soundgarden's 1997 greatest hits album, "A-Sides" and on the latest Live record "Live on I-5”

The band explained that the lyrics for "Jesus Christ Pose" concern the exploitation of religion for personal benefit. The song is a criticism of how public figures use religion (particularly the image of Jesus Christ) to portray themselves as being 'better' than others, or as 'martyrs'. Cornell specifically mentioned Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell as an influence on the song, explaining, "It became fashionable to be the sort of persecuted-deity guy.”

In an interview, Cornell explained the term "Jesus Christ Pose":
You just see it a lot with really beautiful people, or famous people, exploiting that symbol as to imply that they're either a deity or persecuted somehow by their public. So it's pretty much a song that is nonreligious but expressing being irritated by seeing that. It's not that I would ever be offended by what someone would do with that symbol

First out is the official video from 1991

Here is a clip from the vic 2010

And then we have this clip, I simply could not resist to include this.

The kids of the San Francisco Rock Project on 5/22/2010 at "Tribute to Lollapalooza" show. This was one of the last shows of the School of Rock's San Francisco location before they announced they were closing it in June 2010. DNA Lounge, San Francisco, CA, May 15, 2010.

Black Stone Cherry - White Trash Millionaire

This band is quite diffrent to other rock band I know, they dont drink or take any drugs. This is really Awesome and outstanding!

I loved their last album so I´m very exited over their new album "Between The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea", todays tune is taken from it. It will be released 31 of May.

The band Black Stone Cherry originated from Tramore, co Waterford. Chris Robertson and John Fred Young, son of The Kentucky Headhunters's rhythm guitarist Dicky Young, started to play music together early in their teens and Wells and Lawhon soon followed. Black Stone Cherry officially formed on June 4, 2001.

They then took over the practice house that had been used by The Kentucky Headhunters since 1968 and began to record tracks. After the band finished recording, they returned to Edmonton for a homecoming gig in the gym of the local middle school, which was attended by 1500 people.

After the band’s self-titled debut album was released, Robertson's former school principal invited the band back to Edmonton to celebrate with a concert. As the band entered the town, the streets were filled with people holding "welcome home" signs.

This is Black Stone Cherry:
Chris Robertson on lead vocals, rhythm guitar
Ben Wells on lead guitar, backing vocals
Jon Lawhon on bass guitar, backing vocals
John Fred Young on drums, percussion, backing vocals

Rush - Witch Hunt

Hey there People!
Im slowly getting back after last week.... :D
Okey so today's tune is the Friday gig at the Stockholm Ericsson Globe Arena Rush!

I came pretty late, so i didn't manage to take any photos at the gig.
But I took some b4, I was totally amazed over his (Neil Peart) drum set.
It was in a reddish/goldish color, with alchemical signs on it.
Totally Awesome! Look below)

I just heard the last songs, they sounded good although his (Geddy Lee) voice wasn't like it use to be, but hey that's okay.

For u that don't know ure Rush its a Canadian rock band that begun in 1968, more than 40 years of activity has provided Rush with the opportunity for musical diversity across their discography. As with many bands known for experimentation.

I picked a tune from their album "Snakes & Arrows Live", according to drummer and lyricist Neil Peart, inspiration for the title of the album was conceived after considerable research from several sources; the 2000-year-old Buddhist game called "Leela, the Game of Self Knowledge," the related children's game Snakes and Ladders (also known as Chutes and Ladders), and Hamlet's quote "slings and arrows." This information helped convince bassist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson to adopt the original painting of the age old game board as the cover for the 2007 "Snakes & Arrows" album.

Tour dates looks like this:
Malmo May 8,2011
Dublin May 12
Glasgow May 14
Sheffield May 16
Manchester May 19
Newcastle May 21
Birmingham May 22
London May 25
Rotterdam May 27
Frankfurt May 29
Greenville, SC June 8
New Orleans, LA June 10
Austin, TX June 12
El Paso, TX June 14
Phoenix, AZ June 16

Los Angeles, CA June 20
Los Angeles, CA June 22
Las Vegas, NV June 24
Concord, CA June 26
Portland, OR June 28

Okey here is my pics.
