Graveyard - Buying Truth (Tack Och Förlåt)

From Gothenburg comes the band Graveyard that with their second release "Hisingen Blues" captured first place on my top 10 list of the best album of 2011 with a classic retro album, an album that really will live long. Really nice beats spiced with a passion for the musical. "Hisingen Blues" has been tossed around in the top layer during most of the year and rooted down really well. A worthy winner in my book.

Graveyard - The Siren

Last night it was time for some live music again the Club Pussy A Go Go stood for entertainment and offered a trio of bands from Gothenburg ie, Top Hawk Horisont and Graveyard. That hyped Graveyard was the given the card was clear from the outset. Though this time, I was most curious about the band Horisont who also got to yesterday as today's tune.

A brief summary of the evening, in a over crowded Debaser Medis here in Stockholm. Where the queue wriggled as far as the sight could see. A little bizarre. First up was the Rock-Boogie band Top Hawk that I actually have never seen live or more accurately never heard of. Top Hawk offered a funky groove built on the keyboard riffs ala 70's. Well played Boogie Rock that entertained.

Then it was time for Horisont to step up and unleash their face of to the creation. Their classic blues rock really get the legs to shake loose, the lead singer Axel Soderberg swayed on stage as Ozzy does. The band was really tight live and I liked what I saw and heard. When their song "Night Rider" was played it became a hell of a boost and the audience, at least those who stood next to me went bananas. A really fun thing is that when certain songs performed in Swedish. Can only say, well done Horisont. It will be really exciting to follow their journey and to hear their next album. Was in fact really hungry for purchasing a Horisont t-shirt but realized it was a bit empty of cash in my pocket.

Last out was the Graveyard this may seem tough when Horisont made an awesome warm up. Sure, but the Graveyard is experienced at this point, maybe a little too experienced. Graveyard is really tight and well played and rocked like hell on stage. A good gig but not the best. I liked their gig at the Kägelbanan related with the record release that one was really good. But hell thats me, the audience liked what they saw and heard, and it lifted a bit when the hits was played. Like the tunes "Ain't Fit To Live Here", "Hisingen Blues" & "Satan's Finest" This gig is still better than approved (normal) and I was really happy when I went home after all. Can only thank Pussy A Go Go for an awesome night and thanks for the poster:)

Now I look forward to the next club night with Pussy A Go Go when it gets to an whole evening with three really cruel acts, more about that in the future here on Tune Of The Day.

Do you want to see some pictures from the gig??? then take your ass out to facebook and check out Tune Of The Day. There will you get some more pictures from his gig.

Horisont - Nightrider

Horisont from Gothenburg, Sweden, looks to the classic hard rock and the bluesy 70′s progressive rock for inspiration. The mix of classic rock, progressive, blues and psychedelic brings the mind back to the days of Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath and November. The wha-wha, fuzz, slide, double riffs, thunderous drums and a killer voice, it’s all here.

On the album "Två Sidor Av Horisonten" from the 2009. Half of the songs on the album are written in English, half in Swedish, giving the album an exotic feel. . Horisont is also currently working on compiling their upcoming album that will be released on Rise Above Records. I belive that Horisont can provide Graveyard a good match for the audience this Friday evening at Debaser, Stockholm. Will you be there? I will!

Pussy a Go Go play records at large dance floor
Club Nuggets play play records in the restaurant

Note, the times are not exact, get there early!

20:00 Top Hawk
22:00 Horisont

It all started back in 2004 when a few guys, originally residents outside of Gothenburg, met and decided to form a band: UNION. It didn’t take long before one by one started to drop out or mysteriously disappear ’til the band was completely dissolved. After a couple of month they once again stumbled across each other’s paths and started talking about reunite the band but with a refining of the previous setting: and HORISONT was born. They didn’t play many shows before they found themselves recording a studio album for Crusher Records.

The members of the band:
Axel Söderberg – vocals
Charlie Van Loo – guitar
Kristofer Möller – guitar
Magnus Delborg – bass
Pontus Jordan – drums

Spiders - Fraction

Spiders was formed in Gothenburg in February 2010 by Ann-Sofie Hoyles (Madamm), John Hoyles (Witchcraft), Matteo Gambacorta (Midwest) and Axel Sjöberg (Graveyard).

A few months later the band appeared at one of Sweden’s most successful music festivals, Way Out West. It was around this time Spiders for the first time as a band stepped into the studio with producer Don Ahlsterberg (The Soundtrack of Our Lives, International Noise Conspiracy) and started recording. By the end of January 2011 Spiders released their debut record, a 10” vinyl EP on Crusher Records containing four tracks. The self-titled release was very well received and noticed in Record Collector as well airplayed on Sweden’s largest radio channel P3. In March 2011 those four previously released tracks came to be released in the USA as two separate 7” singles, one on Kemado Records the other on Valley King Records, the latter with an artwork made by the well-known Alan Forbes.

Around this time drummer Axel Sjöberg left Spiders to work full time on Graveyard and came to be replaced by Ricard Harryson (Fox Machine, The Maharajas). In May Spiders stepped into the studio for the second time recording a two track single "Fraction" for De:Nihil Records, it was released in the end of August 2011.

Slipknot - Psychosocial

Today I thought to mention some impressions from Sonisphere festival that took place this weekend. This is the third year this festival is held here in Sweden, this is also the third year that I've been working with it in one way or another. The first time it was in Hultsfred (South Of Sweden), second year on the ”Stora Skuggan (Big Shadow)" outside Stockholm, and this time it became a city festival almost in the center of Stockholm, when the area around the Globe was used for this eminent one-day festival.

Due, of much work at the beginning of the festival with various fix various I missed both SEVEN TRIBE and DEAD BY APRIL, no major loss i think, you could hear the tunes in the background. I did however got the chance to see a few songs with my Norwegian favorites KVELERTAK that cleared the net and brought back to life of the sun drowsy audience with their groovy mangle. A band that I prefer to see in a smaller environment such as the venue they had last time in Stockholm, Debaser Slussen. Unfortunately I missed the GRAVEYARDs gig, but ran into them in the hallways, nice guys indeed. MASTODON was to my satisfaction, and I managed to see around four songs before it was time to run away again. ARCH ENEMY did in my opinion an awesome gig, Angela Gossow is the woman with the power to get the usual deadly to fall like skittles. AIRBOURNE had a full blast from beginning to end and showed that they can rock like hell, fun to watch actually. IN FLAMES is always great to see live, but it was a shame that so few new songs were played, the new album is really high class. But as always, great to meet the guys behind the band, Biffen, Morgan Brown, Tobbe Berg, Fish and others. MUSTASCH I did not see, but i did hear them.

The festival's climax and headliner, SLIPKNOT have the honor of ending the stripped down Sonisphere this time, as they do in a brilliant way, enough crazy to stick around and enjoy the spectacle.

Paul Gray, who passed away a little over five years ago was hailed by his dress, it was hanging on the stage and his stand in was hiding behind it all. The show was pretty emotional, but crazy, just as one would expect from the guys.

Here is some pictures from my camera.

Here is some pictures from my friend and the great photographer Micke Sandströms camera.

Todays tune "Psychosocial” is the second single and fourth track from their fourth studio album, "All Hope Is Gone”. Percussionist Shawn Crahan told The Pulse of Radio what he could regarding "Psychosocial", saying, "One thing I can feel is like that song has got a lot of, I would say social anxiety. It's got a real good tempo. It's really fun and it's different. I think most of the stuff that we have is different.”

Iron Maiden - Blood Brothers

Back in Stockholm after two weeks in Gothenburg, we have already taken a look at the festival where I spent the most time of my stay in the eminent city. Finished it all with a weekend at Ullevi and two totally awesome concerts.

Gothenburg, sun, warmth, Ullevi, Iron Maiden and 56,245 cheering fans - probably the most logical formula ever assembled.

The band delivered once again a magnificent evening with their epic galloping metal. The sound is a bit shaky at first, but gets better the longer they come into the setlist, once the song number seven "The Trooper" kicks off then the Ullevi Stadium explodes.

Songs like The Wicker Man, Blood Brothers got a very well received, the new tune "When The Wild Wind Blows" is really epic live. Then the classics tunes make a fire in the hole and they one after an other, see setlist below.

That the band is known for dragging with them a lot of props to build up its production around, and sure, they did so even this time. Space was the theme this time and held a great class with both the radio tower and a giant Evil Eddie. Overall it was an ok concert. Opening acts for the evening was the Swedish Graveyard and Sabaton.

A more detailed review of the concert can be found at WeRock!, Written by Martin Bensch.

Todays tune ”Blood Brothers” is taken from their the twelfth studio album "Brave New World”, released on 30 May 2000.

Setlist:
1. Satelite 15 / The Final Frontier
2. El Dorado
3. 2 Minutes To Midnight
