Honningbarna - Våkn Opp!

Honningbarna is a Norwegian punk rock band from Kristiansand. The band debuted in 2010 with the EP Honningbarna. January 2011 they were voted the year's "NRK Urørt" with the song "Borgerskapets utakknemlige sønner" and the 25th March the same year thier debut album "La alarmane gå". For the debut album they won in the class "rock" during Spellemannprisen 2011. They were also nominated in the category "best Newcomer" Drummer Anders Eikås died in a car accident 31 January 2012.

This is a bunch of young guys who create a real swing, it's dirty-rattling, the lyrics are in Norwegian, is actually more resembles of Kaizers Orchestra than Kvelertak. But damn I like this, incredibly sad with the drummer, really hope the guys fix this and get back. The band would have played in Stockholm yesterday, but unfortunately they cancelled the show, which is understandable.

Other members of the band

Edvard Valberg (vokals & cello)
Lars Emmelthun (bass)
Christoffer Trædal (guitars)
Fredrik Justnes (guitars)

Todays tune "Våkn opp!" is taken from Honningbarna's EP. Released 2010.

Honningbarna live from Metropolis Kulturhus in Stavanger,31,III,2011.

Kvelertak - Sjøhyenar

Kvelertak, the main act and the last band out from last weekend's nice rock package. Kvelertak who have visited Tune Of The Day several times, and this gig was probably No. 4 with the band. As with previous shows, it's full speed from the first note to the last and the band really gives everything live, an incredible joy to be involved. I will not be long-winded today, states that this was a great gig once again.

I had a tough time getting to the setlist together but I think in retrospect that two new songs were played, possible that I'm wrong, correct me please in such case.

After the gig did i made a customary visit to the merchandise place to purchase evening t-shirt, stood and choose from purchasing a Toxic Holocaust t-shirt or a Kvelertak, it ended however with a Kvelertak with following printing, neat huh? Too bad not TH had any vinyls with it, that I wanted to buy.

Doomriders - Come Alive

Today we continue on yesterday's post, and offers a one more band from the nice package and rock who visited the Strand, Stockholm last weekend.

Doomriders is a heavy metal band from Boston, Massachusetts. The band has released two albums on Deathwish, Inc. The band's vocalist/guitarist Nate Newton also plays bass in Converge and guitar in Old Man Gloom. Jebb Riley formerly played bass in "There Were Wires". Doomriders have toured with Coliseum and Saviours. The band began work on their third studio album in 2011.

Have actually never heard the band before, had their record in line to listen but never got that far, so I have to say I was surprised that it swung as good as it did live. Sounded like a well-honed band working together and delivered a well-made gig.

The band lineup:

Jebb Riley - Bass/Vocals
Chris Pupecki - Guitar
Nate Newton - Guitar/Vocals
Q - Drums

Here is some photos from the gig:

Todays tune "Come Alive" is taken from their second album "Darkness Come Alive", released September 29, 2009 on the record label Deathwish Inc.

Toxic Holocaust - Agony of The Damned

Last Saturday it was time for a real rock packages at Strand in Stockholm. Bands such as the heavy "The Secret", The Shredding "Toxic Holocaust", the doomish "Doom Riders" and the almighty "Kvelertak".

It was intended that "Trap Them" would be traveled in this tour, due to severe physical health issues "Trap Them" are forced to cancel their European tour with "Kvelertak". "Trap Them" was replaced by "The Secret".

I arrived this time as a private individual to the venue, stepped into the end of The Secret's set. Sounded hard, dark but I heard insufficient to form an impression of them Italians.

Once it was time for Toxic Holocaust, it became pace in the house, seemed to be more than I that was curious to hear them live, and damn what it went away, simple with powerful riffs in a fast and very comfortable Speed. A very well made gig, nice gang to see live.

Toxic Holocaust are a thrash metal band from Portland, Oregon. Influenced by punk rock and heavy metal bands of the 1980s such as Slayer, Exodus, Black Flag, Discharge among others. Joel Grind founded Toxic Holocaust in 1999. He originally wrote and recorded all of the band's music himself, and after a couple demo releases (Radiation Sickness, 1999; Critical Mass, 2002), he made his official full-length album debut as Toxic Holocaust with Evil Never Dies (2003). Two years later, after some touring with a hired backing band, Grind released the second Toxic Holocaust album, Hell on Earth (2005), which once again he wrote and recorded by himself. The album notably features cover art by Ed Repka, known for having created iconic covers for albums by Megadeth, Death and others. Extensive touring followed, along with a recording contract with Relapse Records. In addition to releasing the third Toxic Holocaust album, An Overdose of Death... (2008), Relapse reissued Evil Never Dies and Hell on Earth.
Conjure and Command is the fourth and latest album, released on July 19, 2011. This will be the first release featuring a full band in the studio instead of Joel Grind performing all instruments and vocals himself.

Here are some photos from the gig:

Slipknot - Psychosocial

Today I thought to mention some impressions from Sonisphere festival that took place this weekend. This is the third year this festival is held here in Sweden, this is also the third year that I've been working with it in one way or another. The first time it was in Hultsfred (South Of Sweden), second year on the ”Stora Skuggan (Big Shadow)" outside Stockholm, and this time it became a city festival almost in the center of Stockholm, when the area around the Globe was used for this eminent one-day festival.

Due, of much work at the beginning of the festival with various fix various I missed both SEVEN TRIBE and DEAD BY APRIL, no major loss i think, you could hear the tunes in the background. I did however got the chance to see a few songs with my Norwegian favorites KVELERTAK that cleared the net and brought back to life of the sun drowsy audience with their groovy mangle. A band that I prefer to see in a smaller environment such as the venue they had last time in Stockholm, Debaser Slussen. Unfortunately I missed the GRAVEYARDs gig, but ran into them in the hallways, nice guys indeed. MASTODON was to my satisfaction, and I managed to see around four songs before it was time to run away again. ARCH ENEMY did in my opinion an awesome gig, Angela Gossow is the woman with the power to get the usual deadly to fall like skittles. AIRBOURNE had a full blast from beginning to end and showed that they can rock like hell, fun to watch actually. IN FLAMES is always great to see live, but it was a shame that so few new songs were played, the new album is really high class. But as always, great to meet the guys behind the band, Biffen, Morgan Brown, Tobbe Berg, Fish and others. MUSTASCH I did not see, but i did hear them.

The festival's climax and headliner, SLIPKNOT have the honor of ending the stripped down Sonisphere this time, as they do in a brilliant way, enough crazy to stick around and enjoy the spectacle.

Paul Gray, who passed away a little over five years ago was hailed by his dress, it was hanging on the stage and his stand in was hiding behind it all. The show was pretty emotional, but crazy, just as one would expect from the guys.

Here is some pictures from my camera.

Here is some pictures from my friend and the great photographer Micke Sandströms camera.

Todays tune "Psychosocial” is the second single and fourth track from their fourth studio album, "All Hope Is Gone”. Percussionist Shawn Crahan told The Pulse of Radio what he could regarding "Psychosocial", saying, "One thing I can feel is like that song has got a lot of, I would say social anxiety. It's got a real good tempo. It's really fun and it's different. I think most of the stuff that we have is different.”
