Honningbarna - Våkn Opp!

 

Honningbarna is a Norwegian punk rock band from Kristiansand. The band debuted in 2010 with the EP Honningbarna. January 2011 they were voted the year's "NRK Urørt" with the song "Borgerskapets utakknemlige sønner" and the 25th March the same year thier debut album "La alarmane gå". For the debut album they won in the class "rock" during Spellemannprisen 2011. They were also nominated in the category "best Newcomer" Drummer Anders Eikås died in a car accident 31 January 2012.

This is a bunch of young guys who create a real swing, it's dirty-rattling, the lyrics are in Norwegian, is actually more resembles of Kaizers Orchestra than Kvelertak. But damn I like this, incredibly sad with the drummer, really hope the guys fix this and get back. The band would have played in Stockholm yesterday, but unfortunately they cancelled the show, which is understandable.

Dag Vag - Samma Sak

 

Today we show some respect to the Stig Vig who unfortunately has left us. Per Odeltorp or Stig Vig, born 19 November 1948 in Boden, died January 23, 2012, was a Swedish musician, singer and composer known as the frontman and bass player in trans-continental rock reggae band Dag Vag. As Stig Vig he mixed Ska and Reggae to Blues, punk, Prog and Popular movement with a pinch of Swedish cultural heritage as Elsa Beskow, Dan Andersson, Evert Taube and Thore Skogman.

The band was formed in 1977 under the name of Dag Vag & Svagsinta. The style of music was as punk as you could notice on their first two songs "Dimma" and "När vården slår till". The band with Stig Vig as the front leader, later shortened the name to Dag Vag and the music was now a mixture of different musical styles. The actual members would categorize their music as "Trans Continental Rock Reggae". Their first single under the name of Dag Vag contained the group's first hit, a reggae cover of Anita Lindblom's song "Sånt är livet".

This was followed by a number of albums of different character on the label Silence, often with world music at some of the tracks. A recording that became popular in wider circles was a cover of Thore Skogman and Lill-Babs duet Pop up the top from 1965. Dag Vag appeared with Gyllene Tider in the SVT´s Måndagsbörsen 1981 .The two bands closed the television program with Popitop, when Thore Skogman appeared as a surprise and sang with in the last verse.

1983 split Dag Vag, and Stig Vig and Zilverzurfarn started when the band Ojj!600 with guitarist Anders Åborg from Aston Reymers Rivaler and drummer Per Erik Gunnarsson Stenroth. Dag Vag resurfaced again at the end of the decade with the song You Will Never Enough. In 1999 came the next resurrection and the latest in 2004.

During their career, Dag Vag sold over 300,000 albums, won a Rockbjörnen, with a few gold records, danced naked on the roof, appeared in the movie Ebba Grön-movie "Ebba the Movie" and become Sweden's most famous rock reggae band.

In 2008 was their first five albums re-released as digipak with bonus tracks.

In 2011 did Dag Vag released their first EP epette. Then the band consisted of Stig Vig on vocals and bass; Tage Z Dirty on drums and vocals; Zilverzurfarn on guitar and vocals, and Teka Pukka on guitar and vocals.  Rest in peace Stig Vig!

The Durango Riot - No Need For Satisfaction

The Durango Riot is young four piece rock combo from Karlskoga, Sweden, their music contains a complete outrageous mix of rock n roll history´s brightest hours. The band that has to date invested more in an international career than in Sweden. The debut album was released in 2007 and in 2008/2009 they had a breakthrough in Japan, where they include performed at Japan's biggest festival Summer Sonic Festival. In 2009 the band got the chance to play in front of 55,000 people in Germany as support act for Die Toten Hosen. Later that summer the band played 12 shows as support with Social Distortion. This swinging band is now playing in their second album, including three songs produced by Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens Of The Stoneage, etc.)

Todays tune "No Need For Satisfaction" is taken from the debut record "Telemission".

Black Flag - Rise Above

 

In many ways, Black Flag was the definitive Los Angeles hardcore punk band. Although their music flirted with heavy metal and experimental noise and jazz more than that of most hardcore bands, they defined the image and the aesthetic. They formed in 1976 in Hermosa Beach, California. The band was established by Greg Ginn, the guitarist, primary songwriter and sole continuous member through multiple personnel changes in the band. They are widely considered to be one of the first hardcore punk bands.

Black Flag's sound mixed the raw simplicity of the Ramones with atonal guitar solos and frequent tempo shifts. The lyrics were written mostly by Ginn, and like other punk rock bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s, Black Flag voiced an anti-authoritarian and non-conformist message, in songs punctuated with descriptions of social isolation, neurosis, poverty, and paranoia. These themes were explored further when Henry Rollins joined the band as lead singer in 1981. Most of the band's material was released on Ginn's independent label, SST Records.

Black Flag was and remains well-respected amongst punk subculture, with their influence primarily in their tireless promotion of a self-controlled DIY punk ethic and aesthetic. They are often regarded as pioneers in the movement of underground do-it-yourself record labels that flourished among the 1980s punk rock bands. Through constant touring throughout the United States and Canada, and occasionally Europe, Black Flag established a dedicated cult following.

Todays tune "Rise Above" is taken from Black Flag's debut studio album "Damaged". It was released in December 1981 through SST Records.

Angelic Upstarts - I'm An Upstart

Angelic Upstarts concludes Pretty Shitty Kjell festival at the club and make it brilliant. To summarize the festival, there's only one word, Great! Kjell Hell and Pretty Shitty Town made a marvelous work to make this happen.

When it was time for the Angelic Upstarts to get up so was the crowd was crazy and the guys in the band looked happier than ever, even the little me enjoyed the event. Got a chance to take some photographs for real when it was time for the last band to get up on stage and share some pictures from the gig also get you another song with the Angelic Upstarts.

Todays tune "I'm An Upstart” was released as a single 6 Apr 1979. This clip is Angelic Upstarts performing I'm an Upstart Morecambe 1997, notice the extra dancer they have :)

Evil Conduct - Home Sweet Home

The first day finished, mingling with old and new skins, punks and ordinary music lovers at a music festival unlike any other.

To be honest, I did not see much of this, but got a chance to listened at Evil Conduct when they did their sound check which sounded actually quite ok. Very good drive in their tracks with a classic punk tune. Ran into a nervous Thomas from Agent Bulldog who moved around and tried to be normal for tonight's gig, the same thing every time, but once it was time to live was the music at high level and they did an awesome gig. The Business English ended the evening in a brilliant way.

The band I liked most in this event was Evil Conduct, they were founded in 1988 and is today an established name in the punk and skinhead circles. They are from Holland, where two of the members also operates a tattoo studio with a very good reputation. This was the third time the band visited Sweden and with a relatively new album with them.

Angelic Upstarts - Solidarity

Pretty Shitty & Kjell Hell organize once again a festival here in Stockholm, two days on Fryshuset Klubben. Following the success of Cock Sparrer gig in spring 2010, so has Kjell Hell and Pretty Shitty Town joined forces, strange it would be otherwise after the commitment, happiness and total satisfaction as shown in connection with last gig out of both visitor, bands and staff. One thing is clear after that, Sweden has a punk scene and you are part of it! So for this year the festival expanded to two days and in a flash i got sold out, so unfortunately no more tickets available. That I will spend two days at this festival will be extremely interesting, actually looks forward to seeing Angelic Upstarts play tomorrow and they are involved in todays Tune Of The Day.

Angelic Upstarts are an English punk rock/Oi! band formed in South Shields in 1977. The band espoused an anti-fascist and socialist working class philosophy, and have been associated with the skinhead subculture. More than two decades after its release, their debut single, "The Murder Of Liddle Towers", was included in Mojo magazine’s list of the best punk rock singles of all time.

The original line up consisted of Mensi - Thomas Mensforth (vocals), Mond (Ray Cowie) (guitar), Steve Forsten (bass) and Decca Wade (drums).
