Clutch - The Mob Goes Wild

Last weekend, did Clutch visited Stockholm for a gig at Klubben. Support band that night was Kamchatka, that we had yesterday at Tune Of The Day! Clutch is constantly on tour, visiting Sweden regularly. I have seen them a couple of times already. Clutch is a band that I really think delivers quality live, basically every time.

Ok, even this evening became a really good, with a nice mix between the songs, oh yes, they did the same deal as before regarding to the setlist for the evening, ie, that a band member chooses which songs to be played and then they play them, so for a concert visitors, every gig will becomes a surprise. During the Scandinavian dates, Clutch get some injection of keyboardist Per Wiberg (ex Opeth ) who really spices up the music and it sounds amazing live. One thing I have thought about in terms of the band and when they play live, where is the communication? It looks like they live in their own bubble. Communication must take place through the music, for Christ's sake, they are so tight in live.

The band is from Germantown, Maryland in the States. They have been playing together since the early 1990s. Each Clutch album is marked by a distinct and cohesive sound dubbed the ultimate jam band. The musical style of the band has migrated from heavy metal and hardcore punk to hard rock. The band has also integrated funk influences into their rock sound. Strong blues influences have also become prominent in the releases of the later years as vocalist/guitarist Neil Fallon notes: "We've been really conscious of the blues over the last couple of years, and you have to admit that the blues really is the source of all rock and roll. I think it's important to go to the source to find that inspiration."

Todays tune "The Mob Goes Wild" is taken from the sixth full-length studio album "Blast Tyrant", released in 2004, and contains 15 tracks. The unabridged title of the album is Blast Tyrant's Atlas of the Invisible World Including Illustrations of Strange Beasts And Phantoms.

A reissue of the album was released on May 10, 2011 through Clutch's own label Weathermaker Music. The reissue contains all of the original recordings from Blast Tyrant, along with a second bonus disc entitled "Basket of Eggs." The second disc contains 10 songs: acoustic versions of "Tight Like That", "Basket of Eggs", "The Regulator", and "Drink to the Dead" as well as some unreleased material. The album will also be released on Vinyl, December 13th (See more info below)

Speaking about the album, Corey Taylor (the lead vocalist of Slipknot) said "Blast Tyrant is one of the best records I've ever heard. Every track is gold- at least to me".



Weathermaker Music will release the long awaited deluxe, double vinyl edition of Clutch's classic 2004 opus "Blast Tyrant" on November 29th via Indiemerchstore.com. Those pre-ordering the 181 gram vinyl package from the site prior to November 21st will also receive the limited edition Clutch Winter Tyrant Beanie and 24" die cut logo snowboard sticker!

A must have thing! I wish this for christmas :-)

The double vinyl package will also be available at North American retail outlets prior to the holidays. On December 13th, Weathermaker Music will release to Clutch friendly retailers, a limited amount of Blast Tyrant vinyl which will include an exclusive 7" picture disc, of which only the Clutch band members know the content! Look for a special announcement when the band returns from their European tour.

In addition to their already scheduled holiday shows, Clutch have added two shows in Austin, Texas on December 17th and December 18th. The show on the 17th will be at the brand new Emo's East and the show the following night will be a very intimate show with Clutch playing at the Emo's Inside Room. Tickets for both shows are on sale today. There will also be a limited number of VIP tickets for both shows.

Kamchatka - Perfect

 

Kamchatka, who played at Klubben last weekend and opened up again for Clutch. Clutch and Kamchatka works well together and they like each other alot, it is clearly visible. Kamchatka has toured with Clutch on several occasions both in Scandinavia and Europe. Klubben on this occasion was entirely sold out, does this mean that it's time for a bigger venue for Clutch next time? It remains to be seen, if I understand it correctly, does Clutch like it smaller, more compact than the big fancy arenas. But more about Clutch tomorrow.

Kamchatka are a Swedish power trio highly influenced by late 1960s and early 1970s blues-rock bands. Their sound combines elements of blues-rock, stoner rock and psychedelic rock. Kamchatka took their name from the volcanically active Russian Kamchatka Peninsula that divides the Okhotsk and the Bering Sea In 2005 Kamchatka released their self titled debut Kamchatka, a 14 track album containing 3 covers: "I Love Everybody" originally written by blues-rocker Johnny Winter. The 2 other songs, "Auto Mowdown" and "Spacegirl Blues" were written by Gerald V. Casale of New Wave band Devo (from compilation Hardcore Devo: Volume One). The album was recorded at Shrimpmonkey studios by Nicolas Elgstrand. In 2007, Before Kamchatka's second album Volume II was released, guitarist Thomas Andersson collaborated on a project called King Hobo with Opeth keyboardist Per Wiberg and Clutch drummer Jean-Paul Gaster, amongst others. Kamchatka's third album Volume III was released in March 2009. An 11 track album containing a cover of The Allman Brothers' song Whipping Post featuring Clutch drummer Jean Paul Gaster. The fourth album Bury Your Roots, an album of 12 original tracks, was released on GMR September 5th 2011.

Kamchatka have been influenced by several genres including blues, progressive rock,
stoner rock and jazz and by artists such as Devo, Ali Farka Touré, Cactus, King Crimson, Kyuss, Sarah Vaughan and Chet Baker.

The band offered a lovely gathering of enjoyable music. This was a gig where I had the opportunity to photograph the event, which was really fun, with my new purchased lens I went around in the photo pit as a 5 year old on Christmas Eve. I'm not one hundred familiar with my new friend as you can see in the pictures but it yet became a reasonable result. Really hope that further opportunities are given in the future of photography, fun like hell, I must say. Back to the gig, the band is a trio that manage to really carve out the sounds from their instrumment in a smooth way and make it sound incredibly beautiful. They even get increase in end of the show by organ player Per Widberg, he gives a real lift in the songs. That the guys loves to be on stage is clearly visible. The band were super nice, and maked the day go very smoothly.

The Baseballs - Candy Shop

 

The Baseballs visited Sweden last week, including a gig at Klubben here in Stockholm, the cuddly boys did a nice appearance with their cheerful rockabilly, the crowd was absolutely crazy. Had a sauna chat with "Basti" which had been completely sold on this washing invention and have invested in a sauna at home in germany.
Basti said that the standard accessories to a sauna was quite impossible to buy at home. So he was really happy when he could find these things at the hardware store here in Stockholm.

The Baseballs are a German rock and roll band founded in Berlin in 2007. They became popular with rock cover versions of modern hits such as "Umbrella" by Rihanna and "Hot n Cold" by Katy Perry.

In 2010 the band supported guitarist Jeff Beck on his "Emotion and Commotion" tour as his opening act.

On first August 2011 The Baseballs released together with General Mills – the producer of the ice cream Häagen-Dazs – within an advertising campaign with Cosma Shiva Hagen a free download of the song "Wha Wha" – which was written especially for the campaign. Top Cats - Heartache

 

At the end of last week did Stockholm had a visit of Baseballs and Top Cats, these two bands had on its agenda to play at Klubben for a bunch of excited fans. Top Cats is the band that opens up and does it with bravura, these young men really get the audience to move his limbs, dancing away and singing along, the Top Cats would be an incredibly entertaining act I had actually never imagined, enough for a small suspicion arose during the sound check when the story of the cool guy from Östermalm was told and how a Östermalms riffs may sound.

The band was founded in 2001 by four friends, who soon became five, friends, that is. Daniel Kjellberg, Fredrik Lilja, Henric Törnevik, Jon Kleppenes and Patrik Pantzar. The idea was brought at a music lesson, where the full context was "playing in the group." Daniel, Fredrik and Jon who were in the same class and played the Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash. This was one of the first times their feeble teenage fingers could touch the base metal in the music hall's arsenal of instruments. After that they harrow in their friend Henric's Garage, an atmosphere filled with nasty and noisy sounds. And so it went on for a while. The upcoming years later, Frederick, Henry and Patrick pubertal faces immortalized in their friend the documentary film Raggarliv, in a parking lot outside of Arvika. And here begins the story of the Top Cats.

 A story that mostly has been a success story, slightly chipped by band members who saddled on. Robert Jansson joined the band as drummer, replacing Daniel. This was a while ago, they are a little unsure of when exactly. They know that he certainly is on a recording that they made with Mariann Records 2004 A few years later decided to Patrick to quit, and later Henry. He was replaced by Martin Lindahl, our current bass player. And sim salla bop so we arrived in the present time.

Angelic Upstarts - I'm An Upstart

Angelic Upstarts concludes Pretty Shitty Kjell festival at the club and make it brilliant. To summarize the festival, there's only one word, Great! Kjell Hell and Pretty Shitty Town made a marvelous work to make this happen.

When it was time for the Angelic Upstarts to get up so was the crowd was crazy and the guys in the band looked happier than ever, even the little me enjoyed the event. Got a chance to take some photographs for real when it was time for the last band to get up on stage and share some pictures from the gig also get you another song with the Angelic Upstarts.
