Nachtmystium - Nightfall

Today I got a bit inspired to listen to a "Skull", what skull, you say, yes it is so that there is a blog, where an amazing artist "Slusk" who paints a "skull" of the week, and this week he has been extra good and painted three skulls.

The first skull is one of the band "Death In June" uses.

The second is from Agoraphobic Nosebleeds EP "A Clockwork Sodom."

The third skull is from Nachtmysiums Assassins: Black Meddle, Part 1, which also is a band that we pick today's tune.

Nachtmystium is an American psychedelic black metal band formed by Blake Judd, formerly known as Azentrius, and Pat McCormick. The band's name is derived from the German word Nacht meaning "night", and the made-up term mystium which resembles the Latin adjective mysticum. Judd and McCormick combined the words to create the band's name, which they state means "Encompassing Darkness."

Todays tune "Nightfall" is taken from the fifth full-length album "Addicts: Black Meddle, Pt. II"  It was released on June 8, 2010.

Todays clip is Live in Englewood, CO - Feb. 18th, 2011

A little story:

At the Georgia Scion Rock Fest on Saturday February 28, 2009, Nachtmystium was forced to cancel at the request of the festival's promoters, and sponsors, Toyota, on Tuesday February 23, 2008 due to an unnamed source, who believed the group was a "Nazi" band. Judd promptly released a statement after the incident, stating, "We will be taking legal action against the people who slandered us in this situation, and in the future will file defamation / slander charges against any person or organization who attempts to prevent us from performing anywhere, especially in the United States. So - let it be known loud and clear for the LAST TIME, we ARE NOT a Nazi band, ARE NOT political, are certainly NOT racists and DO NOT support that world or any band, person or business affiliated with it." He also apologized to Nachtmystium fans who traveled to the concert to support the band.

Midnight - Satanic Royalty

Ohio's Midnight, for those who don’t know, play old school beer soaked, blackened heavy metal. Equal parts classic Bathory and Judas Priest with a massive dose of punk energy, their latest release, Satanic Royalty, is a whirlwind of NWOBHM inspired, heshed out metal, Satanic Royalty is a blast of sulfurous air in a genre so often taking itself too seriously.

It’s released on CD, vinyl and even tape so that’s another confirmation for its old-school smell.

Todays tune "Satanic Royalty" is the title track for the latest release with Midnight. A noisy intro consisting of backwards vocals, organs, distortion gives way to a fist pumping guitar lead.

Alcest - Autre Temps

Alcest is a musical project born in Bagnols-sur-Cèze, France. It began in 2000 with three members – Neige, Aegnor and Argoth. This band released a demo of black metal songs in 2001. Shortly after, Aegnor and Argoth left the band, leaving Neige as the sole member. This marked a change in style, as Alcest's subsequent releases have more often been described as shoegazing.

As a child, Neige had experiences of being in contact with a "far off country", which he generically refers to as "Fairy Land". Alcest serves as the musical adaptation of the memories from this fantasy world. Neige intends for Alcest to be a journey for the listener to this world through his memories. This change in concept was first introduced on Le Secret. Souvenirs d'un autre monde will serve as a literal summation of the concept behind the band.

Neige - bass, vocals, guitar, synth
Winterhalter - drums
Fursy Teyssier - artwork

Todays tune "Autre Temps" is the first single of the new and third studio album "Les Voyages de l'Âme" (English: The Journeys of the Soul), released on January 6, 2012. Check this video and dream away on this tune, its fantastic.

The single is out now as limited etched vinyl 7" and digital download.

"Autre temps" lyrics:
Une prière lointaine que porte le vent du soir
Anime les feuilles dans leur danse alanguie.
C'est le chant des vieux arbres entonné pour toi,
Pour ces bois obscurs maintenant endormis.
Sans nous attendre tant de saisons ont passé;
Les feuilles dorées s'en allant mourir à terre
Renaîtront un jour sous un ciel radieux,
Mais notre monde érodé restera le même
Et demain toi et moi serons partis.
------------------

English translation:

Another Time
A distant prayer, carried by the evening wind
Enlivens leaves in their languid dance.
Hear the song of the old trees, singing for you
For the dark, resting woods.
So many seasons have passed; they did not wait.
The golden leaves dying on the ground
Will be reborn under bright skies
As this weatherworn world remains the same,
And tomorrow, you and I will be gone.

Behemoth - Lucifer

Polish blackened death metallers Behemoth have released thier new video for the song "Lucifer" off the band's current album, "Evangelion".

Behemoth recently rehearsed for the first time since Darski was diagnosed with leukemia last August. The group also started writing a new song, which was described by Nergal as "fast, furious, but more evil in a way."

He added, "Just wait and see us on the stage. You'll see. I'm not going to reveal anything about it, but we … It's not gonna just be BEHEMOTH. It's not like time stood still for us, like we were frozen in time and are just going to appear with the same entourage and in the same outfits. No. We're going to come back, we want to remind people of our existence obviously, but we want to make a fucking impact, an impression. We want to show them that, hey, we are still fucking evolving. We're not just hoping that you'll come to see us because I was sick. Fuck that. I'll be better soon and we're going to deliver!"

Behemoth will go out and tour in early 2012 in Europe, then shortly after that, a U.S. tour. Check the dates below.

Craft - Come Resonance Of Doom

Swedish Craft has been around for ages and had released three full-lengths. The latest release "Void" is an kinda streamlined and straightforward album, filled with slow, heavy riffs and dissonant black metal parts, loads of creepy and evil melodies. You should definitely check out this band if you like riff-based black metal that's pretty raw and straightforward.

Tentacles extend from an unconscious hub within his inner hell.
It screams and haunts. It beats its drums.
Come resonance of doom!
It beats its kettledrums.
Creates confusion in the wake of its waves.
Creating horror in the wake of its waves.
Come resonance of doom!

Thats the lyrics from todays tune!

Vinyl Release of Void
Craft consists of:
Nox (vocals), John (lead guitar), Joakim (guitar and random noise), + session members.

Statement from the band:
"Dirge Rep does not play drums on Void. The drums on Void are programmed. The drum session with Dirge Rep had to be scratched partly because we did a lot of extra changes on Void after the drum recording session, and partly because of stupid decisions by me (Joakim) during production."

Blog colleague Tomasz Swiesciak wrote a few lines on the album at WeRock, read here!

Todays tune "Come Resonance Of Doom " is taken from the album "Void" that was released by Carnal Records(CD) and Trust No One Recordings(LP) on August 5, 2011

Southern Lord Recordings will release "Void" in North America on October 25(CD) and November 8(LP).

Watain - Malfeitor

A big happening in Sweden is The Grammy Award Gala.
It is an Oscar gala in the world of music.

It was held in one of Stockholm's finest houses, The Royal Opera House.
The death metal band Watain seemed veryyyy misplaced there.
Hehe but it was awesome!

Its an very old building with lots of gold and shit.
Here is a picture of what u see from the stage.

We did the loadin in a elevator that was HUUUUGE lemme show u :)

I was getting all light up and them under the show doing the spotlights
with a pal of mine. Here is a pic from the "hanging moving lights" before they took it all up and one of me and the front raw lights.

This is one of the light techs, Gustaf I think he didnt liked to
have a photo taken :p

This is the microphone they used when the winners had their speach.
and the on stage monitor table.

The master of ceremonies was a girl that is a sing and songwriter.
Eva Dahlgren she is nice and play good music, but...totally misplaced here.
Ah well here she is with one of her designed eh..neck wear

Doing the spotlights can either be great or very lousy.
In the Opera house they are in a room that is totally closed and one cant hear wots going on on stage, they did have a bad speaker behind us but we couldnt have that very high cos then we didnt hear what the girl giving us Que said.
And at first it was hell hot up there then they started the fan and it was cool.

Here is a pic from our room.

At the rehearsal they begun to show who really won, but I guess they suddenly
understood that it wasent that good idea cos people talks ;)
So on every winner that came up on the video was the Watain clip.
So I screamed every time haha. A girl that was holding everything that
happen came in and pretended to take the prize and make a speach.
She raised her finger devils horns and screemed AAAHHHH Awesome gurl!

One of the artists playing in the end was a band I dont like at all
but here is a picture of em...The Ark.

I saw a pic of Erik in Watain on a fellow blogger that was so damn cool that I just had to steal it. This is Erik and one of Swedens most known christian artists Carola Häggvist.

Dudes and Dudettes here is a live preformance from Watain
(I stole it from the same girl that I got the pic above, great sound and pic.)

Cheers, Thetania

Awards
This is the Show Grammis Galan

Melechesh - Ghouls Of Nineveh

Yesterday, in Twelfth Night (Day Before a holiday in Sweden), the hard rock community to its annual meeting where I was invited to. An evening filled with music divided into eight categories that could be played on the host's home stereo. There was a gang of 11 guys who came with a disc was with these categories, you can read my choices below. It was actually a very enjoyable evening with lots of go music, lots of beer, pizza, hot dogs and funny stories.

I'll play a song from my list, a band that I actually have been a bit of inside to have a little surprise. This band, I had the best detail.

Melechesh is a black metal band that originated in Jerusalem. The band’s goal was to create a type of black metal incorporating extensive Middle Eastern influences mainly based on Mesopotamian/Sumerian and occult themes (both musically and lyrically); the band invented the title "Mesopotamian metal" to best describe their type of metal.

The name Melechesh consists of two Hebrew words, (melech, meaning king) and (esh, meaning fire), a combination which has been originated by the band. The band started their career in Jerusalem (and Bethlehem) and operated from there between 1993–1998; however, they have resided mainly in Amsterdam since 1998 for several personal, professional and demographic reasons.

Photos taken from Melechesh's MySpace

And oh yes, its release on Vinyl :)

Here are my choices from yesterday (Note that all is from 2010 and non is Swedish, just to make it hard for myself) :)

Best detail: Melechesh - Ghouls Of Nineveh.
A band that plays black metal, and come all the way from Jerusalem is quite fun but the odd detail, from an absolutely brilliant band.

Something unexpected: Black Country Communion - Beggarman
This combination of musicians who combine their bags together and makes such a music with a swing is absolutely wonderful.

Best discovery last year (2010): Kvelertak - Victims Night
A debut that really kicks a straight in the stomach, so damn good.

Best European Act (note not Scandinavian): Accept - No Shelter
This year's comeback all categories, which turned out to be a superb album.

Best title track: High On Fire - Snakes For The Divine
Taken from the Tune Of The Days albumlist place number one, for best album 2010th

Best Death/Black: Barren Earth - Curse of the Red River
Finnish Barren Earth takes this category with its progressive death metal.

Best/most fitting vocal performance: Apocalyptica - Broken Pieces
Lacey Sturm sings like an angel. Fits these distorted cellos.

Best album right now: Kylesa - Tired Climb
The album, which is located on the turntable this moment, cruel turn.

Blog colleague Chief Rebel was one of the men who shared his favorites during the last day metal marathon, see his choices here. And for some pictures here.

Todays tune is "Ghouls of Nineveh" taken form the latest album The Epigenesis, released 2010, todays clip is live @ Trabendo, Paris, 30.11.2010

Sound only in this clip.
