Orange Goblin - Red Tide Rising

Orange Goblin are a stoner metal band from the United Kingdom that formed in 1995. The band's lineup currently consists of singer Ben Ward, guitarist Joe Hoare, bassist Martyn Millard, and drummer Chris Turner.

Orange Goblin (a band name that is kinda funny, at least it put a smile in your face when you read it), a band that is well reckoned when it comes to high-octane stoner metal. A new album that makes you dance infront of your stereo. In my point of view its a great album, it's a well-composed record that includes nice lyrics, melodies and all the heavy (a bit doomed) riffs, with enough variation to keep a broad audience satisfied. This record has also been reviewed at WeRock by Chief Rebel, check it out here! And yes, this one is released on Vinyl and yes Orange Goblin will be returning to Sweden for the first time in 10 years to play at this year's Sweden Rock Festival.

Todays tune "Red Tide Rising" is the first single from the 7th and the latest studio album "A Eulogy for the Damned", released on 13th of february.

Enter the Hunt - Fighters

Katatonia is celebrating an 20th year anniversary, this evening they will play at the Göta Källare here in Stockholm, tonights show is going to be a little extravagant in the celebrations as Katatonia have the pleasure to feature exclusive appearances by all their ex-bandmembers and a couple of guests at this show only.

Katatonia will again perform two sets at each show; the first set will they play the front to back of ‘Last Fair Deal Gone Down’ – the album that put Katatonia firmly on the musical map and coincidentally also celebrates 10 years since its release. The second set will consist of a mixed set of carefully picked songs from their extensive catalogue. In its entirety this evening with Katatonia will be well over two and a half hours of live music.

Among the special guests: Long time former band mates and brothers Fredrik and Mattias Norrman will take on their old bass and guitar duties on selected songs. Also confirmed is the one and only Mr Guillaume Le Huche (a.k.a. Israphel Wing), known for being the band’s bass guitarist on their very first studio album ‘Dance of December Souls’ back in 1993. And the last special guest to be announced is Krister Linder who’s flying over from New York City and taking on vocals duties next to Jonas Renkse to depart the night’s performance.

Enter The Hunt makes a special gig as support act for Katatonia so I thought that we offer a track by them.

Enter The Hunt (ETH) is a Swedish metal band from Stockholm, which was formed in 2002 by Bjorn Flodkvist, Stefan Kälfors and Mats Ståhl. The debut album "For Life. 'Til Death. To Hell. With Love" released by Sony BMG in August 2006. The band's second full length album planned "Empires Fall" has had its release postponed. A first single, "Fighters", released in May 2009. This single is today's Tune Of The Day.

Blog and WeRock colleague Kim Kahn writes about this in her blog and she also got the chance to do an interview with the band that you can read about here! Additionally, there is a contest on WeRock, where the price is a delicious ETH t-shirt, check it out here!

In Flames - Delight And Angers

In Flames who is out on tour made a stop at Hovet, here in Stockholm. With a nice package of rock bands as Trivium, Ghost, Rise To Remain and Insense. I was obvious that i had to witness this. However, I missed the first 3 bands, including Ghost that I encountered in the corridor on the way down. Dastardly, that was actually the band that I wanted to see, but the times I got was wrong. Well you can not get everything.

Once I got there it was time for Trivium to play, it was ok but a bit boring, a band that not quite get me to be interested. But when it was time for the main act to get on, it became much better, In Flames, which always delivers quality music live and did so this time too, I'm not going on for very long, this time without reference to a excellent report that WeRock colleague "Fredrik Sandberg" has written, read it here!, also take time to read the well-written lines of another colleague "Tomasz Swiesciak" who wrote for the magazine Gaffa, read it here!

Machine Head - Locust

Today we announce the last band on "The Eighth Plague Tour" -package, the main act Machine Head. May tell you that during the soundcheck did their American sound engineer run all in on the volume to see how the stuff could work out, it was so high that the dust fell from the ceiling, the walls rattled and all the gauges went to the bottom. Not even earplugs helped here and sound engineers runned all this without earplugs no wonder he said WHAT in every other sentence.

Machine Head had a little video interviews, photoshoots etc during the evening before the doors, Roadrunner was there to do a review of both Robb Flynns and Phil Demmel guitar pedals and of course a meet and greet with fans.

After Bring Me The Horizon set was finished and while changeover is ongoing and Bring Me The Horizon stuff picked down, one could note that much of the audience changed to a slightly older and more mature crowd of metal fans, you hear how they warmed up with "Machine Fucking Head", now is all the bright tones gone.

Once it is time for the band to kick loose they will do it furious and it becomes an incredible tensile inside the arena for both music wise and audience wise. It's neat, wicked, mean and incredibly well played. The light is really nice and projector that plays on a backdrop and the two side sections fits in well in the harsh environment. The song "The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears" dedicated "LG" singer of Entombed, who was also is there this evening, as usual:) A Swedish flag throwns up on stage and "Flynn" wrap himselves in it while he holding a speech and invites the audience on a drink.

Overall, This package of awesome bands was an incredible successful move, they all did a really good show and maybe one of the best sofar with Machine Head. So

Craft - Come Resonance Of Doom

Swedish Craft has been around for ages and had released three full-lengths. The latest release "Void" is an kinda streamlined and straightforward album, filled with slow, heavy riffs and dissonant black metal parts, loads of creepy and evil melodies. You should definitely check out this band if you like riff-based black metal that's pretty raw and straightforward.

Tentacles extend from an unconscious hub within his inner hell.
It screams and haunts. It beats its drums.
Come resonance of doom!
It beats its kettledrums.
Creates confusion in the wake of its waves.
Creating horror in the wake of its waves.
Come resonance of doom!

Thats the lyrics from todays tune!

Vinyl Release of Void
Craft consists of:
Nox (vocals), John (lead guitar), Joakim (guitar and random noise), + session members.

Statement from the band:
"Dirge Rep does not play drums on Void. The drums on Void are programmed. The drum session with Dirge Rep had to be scratched partly because we did a lot of extra changes on Void after the drum recording session, and partly because of stupid decisions by me (Joakim) during production."

Blog colleague Tomasz Swiesciak wrote a few lines on the album at WeRock, read here!

Todays tune "Come Resonance Of Doom " is taken from the album "Void" that was released by Carnal Records(CD) and Trust No One Recordings(LP) on August 5, 2011

Southern Lord Recordings will release "Void" in North America on October 25(CD) and November 8(LP).

Gordon Fights - Time Machine

Blues-driven Swedish rock band Gordon Fights visit us with their debut single "Time Machine". This is a wonderful rock 'n roll frenzy, here has the brush been dipped into Lynyrd Skynyrd's paint bucket. Splashing their art with MC5 and Humble Pie, it's really good expressed and swings awesome, with a clear love for the 70 century, Southern rock. To get the true feeling in the rythms have they let their mustaches lie in a bath of U.S. imported beers.

In Solitude - Serpents Are Rising

In Solitude is a Swedish Heavy Metal band from Uppsala. With their debut album in the trunk and a new in the pipeline, these brash youngsters stood on stage at The Strand to warm up the crowd before it was time for Ghost (which we wrote about yesterday) there is no doubt that these boys can play, classical heavy metal were delivered in the best possible way. The young fox fur-wearing frontman Pelle “Hornper” Åhman doesn’t use as much facepaint as his fellow brother in Ghost and he use no ecclesiastical dresses, he use a more straightforward rock and roll clothing. Overall it was good performance. This was the first time I heard them live, made me crave more and it ended up that I went home with their debut album on vinyl in under my arm.

Uppsala sons signed earlier this year a global deal with Metal Blade and has just been in Nicke Andersson (Hellacopters, Entombed, Imperial State Electric) new studio Gutterview Recorders in Stockholm. Together with producer Fred Estby (Dismember, Death Breath, Carnage, Necronaut), they crafted, what might can be a real good metal album, I heard a few tunes and it sounded really good. If i get my hands on the full album i will do a review of it here or on WeRock.

The band's current lineup is as follows:

Hornper - Vocals
