Lykke Li - I Follow Rivers

Yesterday was a festival, more specifically, Propaganda! A package crammed with music. At that stage I was working on, jostling bands like Those Dancing Days, Jenny Wilson, Säkert Midlake and Lykke Li. A very nice event, as usual, when this festival takes place. Going to do a little summary of the bands that played on the scene I was working on the mixing of images:)

First was the Stockholm band Danicing Those Days, these young ladies did a great performance with their danceable pop. Had some bad luck At the beginning when guitarist shoulderstrap released and was trying to play until rescue came and the gaffa rescued the rest of the gig. Drummer Cissi's probably one of the coolest drummers in the girl band I've ever seen, she pounded the skins as if it was the last thing she would do in life.

Then it was time for Jenny Wilson and her Tensta Gospel Choir to perform. It was actually quite impressive with the choirs. Swinging ok.

After that it was Annika Norlin and her Säkert's to get up on stage. She is a Swedish pop artist who makes music under the artist names Hello Saferide (in English) and Säkert! (in Swedish). Her Swedish songs get the audience to sing along.

A small view when Säkert's backline tech "Joel" trying to work during Jenny Wilson's gig. A bit difficult to see when so much smoke should pass the visual field.

A view of the audience and excited photographers.

American band Midlake was number four to enter the scene. That this is a band that certainly is best suited during a little more intimate relationships than the festival, it could be seen almost immediately, the band use only a fourth part of the stage, very compact, I must say, but they did an awesome gig, really beautiful with their folksih element mixed with easy country rock.

Lykke Li who was the evening's headliner on the main stage for a night of very smoky but spectacular show.

Todays tune "I Follow Rivers" is a song by Swedish recording artist Lykke Li from her second studio album, Wounded Rhymes. Produced by Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John, it was released in Sweden on 21 January 2011 as the album's second single. The music video was directed by Tarik Saleh and features Li in a black robe and veil chasing a man (Fares Fares) through a snowy landscape.

Those Dancing Days - Reaching Forward

Way Out West, a festival in Sweden’s second city, Gothenburg, is already known as one of the best music festivals in Europe despite being in only its fifth year.

For three days Gothenburg is home to the crème de la crème of national and international music. The line up for 2011 so far includes Prince, Kanye West, Pulp, Robyn, Fleet Foxes, Thåström, Explosions In The Sky, Janelle Monáe, Wiz Khalifa, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, The Jayhawks, Twin Shadow, The Avett Brothers and Warpaint.

Way Out West’s unique city based format taps into Gothenburg’s thriving music scenes, with performances at venues all over the city; rock clubs, nightclubs, churches, theaters and cultural centers are all used to showcase breaking and more established acts as part of the festivals club concept, Stay Out West.

Slottsskogen is the Gothenburgers favourite park: a wonderful green space in the heart of the city with large lawns, wooded areas, lakes, and even a zoo with elks, seals and penguins. Right in the city centre, it’s within walking distance of two of the city’s best-loved districts; the culturally diverse Linné and historic Haga, as well as a large selection of hotels and hostels in all price classes.

Way Out West is environmentally certified. The festival aim is to respect the park environment and leave a little environmental footprint. The food and drink is mostly organic (in fact, one of the city’s star chefs runs one of the food tents), the power is green, and the waste is recycled.

To get some feeling, Tune Of The Day will focus on this festival for a week. During this period, we will offer music from the acts playing at this festival, and hopefully also lots of pictures to be published, depending a bit on how we have time, but we will of course give it a try.

Here is a few pictures from yesterday and today!

First out on this Way Out West week will be Those Dancing Days that plays on ”Stays Out West” on Brewhouse, Thursday 00:00

Those Dancing Days are an indie pop band from Nacka, a suburb of Stockholm, Sweden. Most frequently compared to Northern Soul and 1960s era girl-groups, the band formed in 2005 while the members were all still in school. They are currently signed to Wichita Recordings. The band consists of five girls from Stockholm. Their name derives from the Led Zeppelin song "Dancing Days”.

The band was chosen personally by Belle & Sebastian to perform at their second Bowlie Weekender festival presented by All Tomorrow's Parties in the UK in December 2010.

Todays tune ”Reaching Forward” is taken from their latest album ”Daydreams & Nightmares"
