Saxon - Surviving Against the Odds

Number 10!
of the best Albums - 2011

One of this year's surprise, that these old men could get a record that swings as good as this was almost non-existence. Call To Arms is very familiar with their roots but created with an incredible desire. Clearly Saxons best album of this century. They keep the balance of the classic 80 metal and the 90's, freshening it up with a modern sound, the band is tight as undersized glove. Call To Arms hits you in the face like a sledgehammer.

Here is "Surviving Against the Odds" from "Call To Arms", Enjoy!

Saxon - Call To Arms

Saxon are an English heavy metal band, formed in 1976 in Barnsley, Yorkshire. The band has recently released their 19th studio album.

The new album is actually really good, there is a real force in songwriting, songs that attracts, engages and entertains. Call To Arms, is one clarion call that generations of denim and leather-clad supporters have been waiting to hear. It's pretty fascinating that on the 19th studio album can hold such high class. Biff Byfords song is completely brilliant, Paul Quinn and Doug Scarratt is really "The Power Of Steel Riffs", also Nibs Carter on bass and Nigel Glöckler on drums doing a great job on this album, Call to Arms is bang on-the-money brilliant Saxon music.

Current Deep Purple keyboardist Don Airey made a guest appearance on "When Doomsday Comes". Two of the tracks on the album were written by the band for the movie Hybrid Theory

The album artwork is derived from Lord Kitchener Wants You, a World War I-era British Army recruitment poster. The US digipack version of the album is featuring a seven track bonus disc containing Saxon's performance at Castle Donington in 1980.

A music video was made for the title track, and was released on 5 August 2011 Which may also be today's Tune Of The Day. The "Call to Arms" album was released the 3 June, 2011 in Europe.

Todays tune "Call To Arms" is a typically British rock ballad, that follow the traditional recipe, enjoy!

Wolf - Skull Crusher

Wolf is a heavy metal band from Örebro, Sweden. Formed in 1995, the band has since released five albums and toured with Saxon, Tankard and more recently, Trivium.

Swordbrothers and Steelsisters, you perhaps already heard the sad news that Axeman left Wolf and Simon Johannsson (Memory Garden , Bibleblack) took over the 6 string axe for the upcoming festivals and the great tour with Firewind in September. So here’s your last chance to see Axeman in full action with WOLF! The official video for ”Skull Crusher” from the brand new album ”Legions Of Bastards” was produced by Morning Star Productions, also responsible for the video ”Hail Caesar” from the previous album ”Ravenous”.

Niklas Stålvind (vocals and guitars) in his own words: ”We have never had so much fun making a video as we had on this one. Smashing a car into smithereens is something we always wanted to do without cleaning up after us or get in trouble with the police. It was the best exercise/therapy you could ever wish for. I felt like I was 10 kilos lighter in both body and spirit afterwards. We had to work hard to demolish it good. A Volvo is made in Sweden and hard to tear apart - just like this Heavy Metal band. This one is for all the skull crushing metal heads out there - We salute you!”

And you can see a short introduction to Simon in this WOLF Bloodstock trailer:

Todays tune "Skull Crusher", Taken from the album "Legions Of Bastards".
