High Spirits - Full Power

High Spirits is a High-Energy Rock band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 2009. "Another Night" is the "proper first album" that was released in the end of last year. The "first non proper album" selftitled "the white album" was only a collection of demos of the very beginning. High Spirits is a band that actually just have one member, Chris Black (Nachtmystium, Dawnbringer), plays bass and sings. The rest of the band is comprised of live members.

Another Nights sound like you would expect from a Heavy Metal (Hard Rock) band in the early eighties, a straight forward rock with all the traditional early foundation. If you are into early Hard Rock or NWOBHM then this is something for you, check it up! And hell yes, it's released on Vinyl! (The Vinyl Version, HRR 191, limited to 750 copies, 250 x solid purple + 500 x black vinyl, lyric sleeve, poster)

Todays tune "Full Power" is taken from album Another Night, released 2011

Van Halen - Tattoo

Van Halen‘s new single "Tattoo" has arrived, and it’s a mix of new and old styles that’s certainly will be a "talk about" among fans and how the upcoming album "A Different Kind of Truth" will sound like. The new tune has a bit of a modern touch but a bit laidback, more pop-rock than hard-rock, have listened to it a few times and have some mixed feelings sofar.

A Different Kind of Truth is the upcoming 12th studio album from American hard rock band veterans Van Halen, it will be releasead on February 7, 2012. It is the band's first album of new material since 1998's Van Halen III, as well as their first album since 1984's "1984" to feature David Lee Roth on lead vocals and the first album to feature Wolfgang Van Halen on bass guitar. It will also be Van Halen's first album on their new label Interscope Records.

The song "She's the Woman" was re-recorded from a 1976 Zero demo. The new version of this song was played in its entirety at the band's intimate press show at the Cafe Wha? on January 5, 2012.

A deluxe version of the album will be released, containing a bonus Acoustic DVD called The Downtown Sessions, which will contain acoustic versions of popular Van Halen songs such as "Panama", "You and Your Blues", "Beautiful Girls", and "You Really Got Me".

Todays tune and the first single of the album, "Tattoo", was released online on January 10, 2012.

A little story off the record.

---------------------------------------

Van Halen had a notable effect on the modern rock music tour with their use of the concert technical contract rider. They were one of the first bands to use contract riders to specify a "wish list", a practice now used throughout the music industry. They pioneered extensive requirements including power availability and stage construction details. The band's demands were not limited to technical issues; their now-infamous rider specified that a bowl of M&M's, with all of the brown M&M's removed, was to be placed in their dressing room. According to David Lee Roth, this was listed in the technical portion of the contract not because the band wanted to make capricious demands of the venue, but rather as a test of whether the venue had actually read and honored the terms of the contract, as it contained other requirements involving legitimate safety concerns.

On earlier tours, inadequate compliance by local organizers to the safety requirements of the rider had placed members of Van Halen's road crew in danger which was occasionally life-threatening. Because of these incidents, the band developed the M&M's demand as a means of checking whether the venue was properly honoring the terms of the contract to their satisfaction. Subsequently, if the bowl was missing, or if there were brown M&M's present, they had reason to suspect that the venue might not have honored legitimate technical and safety concerns within the contract. As a result, the band would be within their rights to inspect the technical side of the performance prior to going on stage, and/or request the venue redo their work properly.

Black Country Communion - The Battle For Hadrians Wall

I have now reached #3 and its closing in :D
Ive choosed one of my closest god´s in this area,

Black Country Communion or BCC, they released a album this year just called "2"

Ive choosed a tune that eint that rocky as the album in its whole is..its lyrics are written by Joe Bonamassa, and the music is by Hughes, Bonamassa, Shirley.

As I told u in the beginning of this top ten, I was totally astonished when I saw them earlier this year. The day after I worked at Europe´s concert and Joe B, Derek Sherinian and some of their tech´s came, and Joe came up stage and play´d a tune with John Norum that was awesome! and I got a hug and a chat with Derek, whom i really like since Dream Theater.

Ladys and Gents, This is BCC and Joe Bonamassa!

Love, Thetania

Fair To Midland - Amarillo Sleeps On My Pillow

Number 6!
of the best Albums - 2011

"Arrows & Anchors" is indeed a dramatic and somewhat profound works with numerous throws from the one to the second element, that it is impossible to separate them at all, but everything falls so naturally in place in the end without that it will be strange or odd in any way.

Todays tune "" is record at Violitionist Sessions from Denton, Texas, July 2011.

Saxon - Surviving Against the Odds

Number 10!
of the best Albums - 2011

One of this year's surprise, that these old men could get a record that swings as good as this was almost non-existence. Call To Arms is very familiar with their roots but created with an incredible desire. Clearly Saxons best album of this century. They keep the balance of the classic 80 metal and the 90's, freshening it up with a modern sound, the band is tight as undersized glove. Call To Arms hits you in the face like a sledgehammer.

Here is "Surviving Against the Odds" from "Call To Arms", Enjoy!

Motörhead - Rock Out

The past weekend did the music stand in the "middle" as usual. This time, we got a pleasant visit from Motörhead. The band that once again did stop here on their tour, they regularly visit Sweden during their almost constant touring. Have actually lost count how many times I've seen them live. This time, was they accompanied with the Norwegian guy called Jorn, who was the support act on this run.

Same day as this, it were an release party of the new Motörhead Vodka.

Demonia did visit the party, you can read about it here!

Motörhead delivered as expected and it had actually been great to have to have the opportunity to photograph the gig, but there was no time on this occasion so I have just a little stray images. But a good friend had actually had time, so I offer some really awesome pictures from Micke Sandström, Enjoy.

Todays tune "Rock Out" is taken from the nineteenth studio album Motörizer. It was released on 26 August 2008.

Here are some crappy pictures!

The Graviators - Druid's Ritual

The Club "Püssy a Go Go" stood for last weekend's club night at Debaser, Slussen here in Stockholm. Offered a delicious cream cake of three bands, as Asteroid (which you could read here on the blog earlier this week), The Graviators (today's tune) and Abramis Brama (Tomorrow).

Asteroid, a band that I thought sounded pretty okay, a real old school jam band with the 70´s century characters. However, I was a little surprised by The Graviators performance, a band that I actually had looked forward to see and they behaved really well live. Was a little disappointed when my favorite tune "Roller" from the album was not played live. But at large it was really, really good, great classic hard rock with a little stoner feeling. I have their debut album on the shelves which I like alot, a record which has one of the year's most beautiful cover design. I purchased their latest 12' split single that they have done with Brutus, a long and intimate tune.

The Graviators was formed deep in the woods of southern Sweden in 2009, with a vision to write and record music inspired by the sounds of the great rock ‘n’ roll groups of the 70's. With a mix of heavy, yet melodic riffs, that will take you on a trip back in time, when bands like Black Sabbath and Pentagram took heavy rock to new heights, The Graviators caught the ear of Swedish label Transubstans who signed them in early 2009. On December 11th, The Graviators self titled debut hit the stores. Their first music video, for the song Back to the Sabbath, was shot by renowned music video director Thomas Tjäder who have made videos for In Flames and At The Gates. The band was featured with the track The Magician, which also appeared on the vinyl release, on the Planet Fuzz compilation Cowbells & Cobwebs.

In 2010 Dutch label Clear Spot/ Headspin records released the album as an exclusive double splatter vinyl. The artwork for this vinyl release (and the 2nd press of the album on CD) was made by the incredible artist Vance Kelly.

In December 2010 they had the great honor of supporting the American doom legends Saint Vitus on their European tour, which took the bands through eight countries.
2011 will see the release of a vinyl split with label mates Brutus, a 14-minute epic called Druid’s Ritual. On the 16th september 2011 The Graviators enterd the studio in Malmö. And record like in the good old days (Analog recording) And hopefully mixing and mastering we'll be finished November/December. Music video we'll be out to. The album we'll be out February next year.

Here is some pictures from the gig:

Todays tune "Druid's Ritual" is taken from the 12' split featuring Norwegian/Swedish 70's hard rockers Brutus and the Swedish cornerstone of doom; The Graviators.
